ReLIFE, the popular manga which is currently running on the manga app comico, has recently released its live-action film adaptation! The movie started screening on 15 April after an amazing hype period fueled by the stellar cast!
To commemorate this release, a stage greeting event was held on opening day, and the guest speakers were: Taishi Nakagawa, Yuuna Taira, Yuudai Chiba, Mahiro Takasugi, Elaiza Ikeda, Sae Okazaki, and director Takeshi Furusawa. The fans at the theater roared with excitement when the guests came up on stage.
Protagonist Arata Kaizaki is a 27-year-old NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). One day, a researcher from the ReLIFE Laboratory offers him to join an experiment, in which Arata’s youth would rejuvenate and he could spend one year as a high school student. Kaizaki accepts the offer and decides to go back to high school for a limited time. In the movie adaptation, Arata is played by Taishi Nakagawa. He is playing both the 27-year-old and the 17-year-old Arata. Yuuna Taira, the young actress who gained public fame for acting in the film Yell for the Blue Sky (Aozora Yell), plays the movie’s other protagonist, Chizuru Hishino. She has cut her bangs short just for the role.
All the seats at the theater were filled with fans, and the six cast members including Nakagawa and Taira went up the stage. Suddenly, Taira whispered to Nakagawa, ‘I’m sorry, but I think that’s where I’m supposed to be standing.’ Nakagawa responded, ‘Oh, oops. I’m sorry, I guess I’m really nervous, since it’s the opening day,’ and the two quickly switched their standing positions. They were reenacting the scene in the movie where rejuvenated Arata goes to school for the first time and sits in Chizuru’s seat by accident. The audience got very excited for this comical performance.
The first question for the cast members was ‘What is your favorite and most memorable line?’ Nakagawa chose the line, ‘Don’t give up on trying your best,’ which he says to Rena Kariu (played by Elaiza Ikeda) in the school nurse’s room. Nakagawa explained, ‘I say this line to Kariu, but it almost felt like I was saying it to myself, and it really got to my heart.’ After the question ‘If you were to switch bodies with someone, which character would you choose?’ many members chose Ryou Yoake, the researcher from the ReLIFE lab, as he is always viewing matters objectively.
During this talking segment, one of the members also revealed a funny story about when Chiba really had to go the bathroom during the filming, and Nakagawa pressed Chiba’s stomach as a joke. This story made the fans laugh, and the event continued in a cozy atmosphere.
At the end, director Furusawa, representing all the cast and staff members, read aloud a message to Nakagawa, who had played the most difficult role in the film. Furusawa mentioned how much effort Nakagawa had put into his role, and he read, ‘Thank you Nakagawa-kun! I’m really looking forward to working with you again, Taishi!’ Nakagawa took many deep breaths while listening to this message, and he said, ‘Furusawa doesn’t usually do these things, so …I’m feeling a bit embarrassed’ Getting a little teary, he tried to hold down his emotions, and his reaction warmed the audience’s hearts.
The new movie ReLIFE features many popular and talented young actors. The stage greeting event ended as a success, and it became a wonderful opening for the movie’s release.
