3-gatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion) is a popular manga by Chica Umino that will be turned into a live action movie by director Keishi Ohtomo. The leading character will be played by Ryunosuke Kamiki. An official photo book called ‘Live Action: 3-gatsu no Lion Visual Book’ will be released on Friday 10 March 2017.
Rei Kiriyama (Ryunosuke Kamiki) is a shogi player who lives alone in downtown Tokyo. When he was young, he lost his parents and younger sister in a car accident and then lived with Koda, a friend of his father and a shogi player. But through certain circumstances, Rei ended up leaving. He was lonely but kept playing shogi until one day he met the Kawamoto family. They are three sisters that live close-by. He is welcomed by them like family. Together, they play shogi that challenges their brain, body and soul. An unimaginable fight awaits Rei!
Currently, the anime adaptation of 3-gatsu no Lion is airing on NHK and the original manga is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The live-action adaptation will be split into two movies.
Ryunosuke Kamiki portrays the 17-year-old main character and shogi player. The rest of the cast: Kasumi Arimura, Kaya Kiyohara, Kana Kurashina, Shota Sometani, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Ryo Kase, Hideaki Ito and Etsushi Toyokawa.
Osamu Kikuchi, the photographer who also took part in the making of movies such as Rurouni Kenshin, Himitsu The Top Secret and A Wife for Rip Van Winkle, took pictures of Kamiki-san and the rest of the cast, making a photo book that lets you take a glimpse into the reality of 3-gatsu no Lion. The photo book will also include comments from Kamiki-san, Director Ohtomo and a message and illustration from the original manga artist, Chica Umino.
3-gatsu no Lion Part 1 will be released on Saturday 18 March 2017. Part 2 will be released on Saturday 22 April 2017.
The photo book ‘Live Action: 3-gatsu no Lion Visual Book’ will go on sale on Friday 10 March 2017.
