The MANGA.TOKYO staff had its share of summer. Now, all we wish is for the hot and humid weather to go away and give its place to the red and cool autumn.
Production I.G (Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell) has announced a new Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime project that will start from Volume 1, Dawn.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) is a science fiction space opera novel set in the far future. The first volume was published in 1982 by popular author Yoshiki Tanaka and has sold over 15 million copies with re-prints still in circulation. The series has 10 volumes and 5 side stories.
An anime series was produced in 1988 with 110 episodes for the main story and 52 episodes for the side stories. The additional three movies gained the series more and more fans over time. Even now, thirty years later, those who starred as voice actors in the series are called the Legend of the Galactic Voice Actors and are still very popular.
The first season of the new series will be titled Legend of the Galactic Heroes – Die Neue These: Kaigou and is scheduled to start broadcasting in Spring 2018. A second season titled Legend of the Galactic Heroes – Die Neue These: Seiran has been decided as well; it will be made up of three movies and come to cinemas sometime in 2019.
During a stage event on 20 September 2017 in Shinjuku, Yoshiki Tanaka appeared on stage together with the director of the new series, Shunsuke Tada, and the voice actors Ryo Horikawa (voice of Reinhard von Lohengramm), Masashi Hironaka (Siegfried Kircheis) and Nozomu Sasaki (Julian Mintz) who voiced the characters in the series directed by Noburo Ishiguro. In addition, the cast of the new announced series was also present. Mamoru Miyano will voice Reinhard, Yuichiro Umehara will voice Kircheis, and Kenichi Suzumura will voice Yang Wen Li.

A young General of the army of the Galactic Empire. He is a war genius and has golden hair and icy-blue eyes. He rose in ranks thanks to his talent in martial arts. He hates the corrupt aristocracy of the Empire and is ambitious.
Brigadier of the Free Planetary Alliance. Even though he never had any intention to join the army, he ended up becoming a soldier for some reason. He has outstanding strategical thinking and tactics and has saved the Free Planetary Alliance Army in a crisis.
Captain of the army of the Galactic Empire. His hair is fiery red. When he was 10 years old, he met Reinhard and they became best friends. After becoming a soldier, he serves Reinhard.
