Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2016 has attracted a record-breaking 43,936 visitors (19% increase over the previous year)!
In commemoration of the event’s 5th anniversary, a total of 68 enterprises and organizations have joined as exhibitors and the total number of the exhibits this year have added up to a stunning 50 works.
Also, the administration for the event added Rohm Theater Kyoto as well as the family area around Miyako Messe as extra event venues in addition to the main venue Miyako Messe and the secondary venue Kyoto International Manga Museum.
The event was full of interesting and attractive contents such as limited collaborative anime-related commodities, a newly-established section for cosplayers, family-oriented attractions, etc.
I have so far participated in a lot of events, and I was a bit surprised to see so many women this time. It seems that the female otaku community feels more secure to admit their fandom, which is amazing.
I also saw a lot of new attempts and efforts by the local community: there were food-themed events around Miyako Messe tand a grand red carpet laid on Heian Shrine’s pathway. It was something completely different compared to the past ordinary anime events.
