Kunihiko Ikuhara’s upcoming 2019 anime Sarazanmai has revealed that the character design concepts will be headed by illustrator MiGiiiiii, who is known for the use of beautiful watercolors. The first character visuals feature a police officer duo, possibly called ‘Reou’ and ‘Manabu’, but it seems their nicknames are ‘Reo’ and ‘Mabu’.
Sarazanmai is an upcoming anime directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara, who is well-known for directing Revolutionary Girl Utena and Mawaru Penguin Drum. The series is slated to air in 2019 and will be a co-production between MAPPA (who produced Yuri!!! on ICE) and Lapin Track (who co-produced Ikuhara’s Yuri Kuma Arashi). So far there has been little announced on the production, but the main website shows the tagline ‘Don’t let go, desire is your life’.
The character concepts will be produced by illustrator MiGiiiiii, whose watercolor illustrations present a unique world. The illustration of the police duo has been released ahead of the designs of the main characters.
It has also been announced that the pair will be getting a spin-off manga from 22 May titled Reo to Mabu ~Futari wa Sarazanmai~ (Reo and Mabu, together they are Sarazanmai). The work will cover the daily lives of Reo and Mabu, and will be released in Gentosha’s BL magazine Rutile, which is published in odd-numbered months, and the online Rutile Sweet, which is released in even-numbered months. The manga will be supervised by Ikuhara and drawn by Keishichou Battouka‘s Misaki Saitoh.
