Director Sunao Katabuchi and Producer Masao Maruyama of Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni will hold a seminar at Sendai Mediatheque on February 20, 2017.
The seminar ‘How The Movie Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni was Made (Temporary Title)’ will commemorate the opening of Miyagi-Sendai Animation Grand Prix 2017. Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni had trouble preparing the money needed for the project. Director Sunao Katabuchi and Producer Masao Maruyama worked together on Mai Mai Miracle, released in 2009. They will talk about behind-the-scenes stories and the struggle of finding the necessary funds to make the movie. In the end, they collected about 40 million Japanese yen via crowd funding.
The movie was first released at 63 theaters, but due to its popularity, it is now being aired at 200 or more theaters throughout the country. It ranked first in Kinema Jumpo’s 2016 Japanese Movie Ranking Best 10. It also received the award of excellence and the Noburo Oofuji Award at the 71st Mainichi Eiga Contest.
On the same day, there will be the award ceremony of the Miyagi-Sendai Animation Grand Prix 2017 and Screening event for the prize winners. The 9th Grand Prix prize winners are:
