It was recently confirmed that Tsumugi Musawo’s manga Koi to Uso (Love and Lies) will be adapted into an anime for the Summer 2017 season. Musawo-sensei and director Seiki Takuno are sharing a few behind-the-scenes stories and their thoughts on the upcoming anime release.
Comment from the original creator: Tsumugi Musawo
‘I came this far because many people helped me and had my back. It’s an anime adaption. It has been a dream of mine for many years, so it is really like a dream. I would be happy if those who have supported me for a long time as well as those who will come to like the anime from now on will enjoy it.’
Director: Seiki Takuno
‘My own time at high school wasn’t related to love, but I wanted to draw the characters with the feelings the original work is packed with, like longing for love, or the ideals of that time of life. I think it would be great if the happiness and sadness of being in love is showing. After having seen the anime, you will definitely want to fall in love with someone!’
The government decides who you are going to marry. The world is dominated by a science that finds out who is the perfect partner for you. Koi to Uso depicts a dangerous forbidden love between a girl and a boy.
Kodansha’s MangaBox released the first chapter of Koi to Uso in August 2014. 1 month after the serialization it became the most popular manga on the site with more than 3.500.000 views. It’s popularity continued with the release of the first tankoubon (printed volume).
One day, we will be notified of ‘love.’
Lies are not acceptable.
Love is even less acceptable.
On one’s 16th birthday, the government sends a notice of assigned marriage partner, as decided by the law of countermeasures against declining birthrate.

On the day of his 16th birthday he decides to finally confess the feelings he has held for years. But right after that, his marriage notice arrives. And it holds the partner he is scientifically most compatible with…
This is a world in which the person you should like, the person you have to like, is decided by the government. It can be what you wished for or what you feared.
This story portrays an immature, fleeting forbidden love story, where the simple and pure thoughts of boys and girls cross each other.
