MANGA.TOKYO has found out that TV anime series Kemono Friends will get a stage play adaptation. The stage play is scheduled to be performed from June 14 to June 18, 2017 at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Club EX.
Kemono Friends is a mixed-media project whose concept design is handled by Mine Yoshizaki, best-known for Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunso), and it has so far been released in a variety of forms including manga, a game, and an anime.
The work features girls who are modeled after various animals and they faithfully represent the personalities, characteristics, and behaviors of those animals. The anime series turned out to be a very heart-warming story and it generated lots of attention. In reaction to the anime’s overwhelming popularity, the production firm has held a number of exciting events such as a collaboration with a zoo, a talk show with the staff members, as well as a screening show!
The upcoming stage play will depict the animal girls’ great adventure in a completely original story. The characters from the unit Dobutsu Biscuits (formed with Serval, Fennec, and Common Raccoon) and Japari Park’s penguin idol unit PPP will be played by the same cast as the anime. It’s really exciting to see their new aspects in the stage play.
The 8 voice actresses, Yuka Ozaki, Kana Motomiya, Saki Ono, Mikoi Sasaki, Ruka Nemoto, Kyoka Tamura, Aina Aiba, Ikuko Chikuta have already appeared in Japanese Music Program ‘Music Station’ while expanding their range of activities and this stage play will surely be a significant step forward for them.
The dancing character Okapi will be played by the actress Hotaru Nomoto who played the protagonist Sailor Moon (Usagi Tsukino) in the musical Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. It’s interesting to find out how this outstanding musical dancer will play Okapi and interact with the voice actresses.
