That was it for the first season of 2019. Many good titles graced our screens, but if we want to be honest, there are too many series in the new season we have been waiting for quite a long time.
On October 9 2016, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Koutetsu-jou no Kabaneri) was crowned the winner of five categories at the Newtype Anime Award. The awards were announced at ufotable’s Machi★Asobi event in Tokushima City. The categories were: Best TV Anime, Best Soundtrack, Best Character Design, Best Screenplay, and Best Studio.
At the Newtype Anime Awards Ceremony: At ‘The Moving Picture Festival 2016’, held at the 17th Machi★Asobi in Tokushima on October 9, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress was highly praised for its world-shaping setting, its screenplay and its soundtrack.
Any animated TV show or movie that was released between October 2015 and September 2016 was eligible for the awards. The winners were chosen by the readers of the anime magazine Newtype over a one-year period and via votes cast between August 20 2016 – September 14 2016 on the website, Web Newtype.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’ series creator Ichiro Okochi accepted the award. The director of the winner of Best Animated Movie (Kimi no Na wa), Makoto Shinkai , also made an appearance on the podium.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress won awards in the following 10 categories:

★ Best Soundtrack: Winner
★ Best Character Design: Winner
★ Best Screenplay: Winner
★ Best Studio: Winner
★ Best Male Character: 2nd Place (Ikoma)
★ Best Female Character: 2nd Place (Mumei)
★ Best Theme Song: 3rd Place
★ Best Director: 2nd Place
★ Best Mecha Design: 2nd Place
