Hikaru Nakamura released a set of illustrations featuring the twelve warriors, in anticipation of the Fall 2017 anime Juuni Taisen. The anime adaptation of the NisiOisiN novel, illustrated by Hikaru Nakamura, will be broadcast from 3 October on AT-X, MBS, TOKYO MX, and BS11.
The illustrations were released at the Crunchyroll Expo that took place in Santa Clara, California. The twelve warriors were depicted in various poses. This is the first time after the announcement of the anime adaptation that Nakamura has released any illustrations. During the expo, a Juuni Taisen talk-show took place and it was attended by Shun Horie (Tsugiyoshi Sumino/Rat), Hiromi Igarashi (Kanae Akira/Tiger), and the producer Kazuto Matsumura. Horie said, ‘There are things depicted in the anime that were not in the original novel. I want you to look forward to that and there are many charming characters, so I’m sure you will find a character you like.’
Juuni Taisen is a battle royale story about twelve warriors who take part in a battle in which the winner will have their wish granted. Besides Horie and Igarashi, the cast includes Yuichiro Umehara (Eiji Kashii/Ox), Nobuhiko Okamoto (Rabbit), Takuya Eguchi (Nagayuki Tsumita/Dragon), Kosuke Toriumi (Takeyasu Tsumita), Hikaru Midorikawa (Yoshimi Soma), Cho (Sumihiko Tsujiie/Ram), Saori Hayami (Misaki Yuki/Monkey), Ayane Sakura (Ryoka Niwa/Rooster), Tomohiro Nishimura (Michio Tsukui/Dog), and Yoko Hikasa (Toshiko Ino/Boar).
