Just in time for its 30th anniversary, the total circulation of the manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will have surpassed 100 million copies by the time the next volume is out. JoJo will be featured on the cover of Ultra Jump along with a special pull-out magazine to celebrate the event.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure by Hirohiko Araki has been serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1987 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2017. The manga became popular enough to be adapted into a TV anime series and live-action movie. Part 8 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure entitled ‘JoJorion’, has been publishing since 2011. When Part 8, Volume 14 is released on December 19 2016, the total copies of the manga will have exceeded 100 million.
Araki commented, ‘The serialisation of JoJo started in 1987. I’m very happy that the circulation will exceed 100 million when it is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary. I can’t be any more grateful to the fans who have read the manga and loved the characters over the past 30 years. However, this doesn’t mean I have reached my goal. In 2017, which is the 30th anniversary of JoJo, there are a lot of projects in the works. I hope you continue to enjoy JoJo from now on. ”
To commemorate the 30th anniversary, there are many planned projects:
First, JoJorion is going to be on the cover of the special enlarged issue of Ultra Jump for its January issue. It will be bundled with a small pouch which is in collaboration with the popular fashion brand WEGO.
Second, Shueisha’s Honyasan App, will run a special project called ‘JoJo and Honyasan are drawn to each other.’ In this app, Japan is divided into six regions and six different campaigns. You can get ’47 prefectures x JoJo’ local stamps and wallpapers for your smartphone in your region every day.
In addition, it has been decided that the 7th section of the series STEEL BALL RUN will be republished in pocket-sized format. Volumes 1 and 2 will go on sale on February 17, 2017. New volumes will then be published monthly until January 2018, for a total of 16 volumes.
Fans of JoJo have a lot to look forward to. What does the 30th year have in store for the popular title?
