In January, we presented you the results of the Whose Character’s Birthday They Most Want to Celebrate in January Anime! Anime! survey. This time we would like to show you whose March-born characters’ birthdays were celebrated in March.
Fans share pictures of how they express their love for their favorite characters on social media. They share pictures of parties they hold including cakes surrounded by goods and illustrations.
Anime! Anime! asked its readers ‘Which March-Born Anime Character’s Birthday Did You Celebrate?’ The survey took place from 6 to 8 April 2018. 298 people participated. About 37% of the readers were male and about 63% were female. About 68% of the users were 19 or under and about 20% in their 20s.
No.1 is Idolish7‘s Mitsuki Izumi. His birthday is on 3 March and got a total of 8% support from his fans. Mitsuki is the mood maker of the male idol group IDOLiSH7. His lovely appearance is misleading as he has a chivalrous spirit and is quite reliable. The anime is currently airing, part of the Winter 2018 season. A possible reason for the great votes he received could be that the story is approaching its climax.
In second place came Umi Sonoda from Love Live!. Her birthday is on 15 March and she received a total support percentage of 7%. Umi Sonoda is member of the school idol group μ’s and is in her second year of high school. Thanks to her parents, who are teachers of Japanese dance, she has a good sense of character. She is one of μ’s initial members and is supporting the main character Honoka Kosaka.
No.3 of the most celebrated March-born characters is Hanamaru Kunikida from Love Live! Sunshine!!. Her birthday is dated 4 March and she got only one vote less than Umi Sonoda. Hanamaru Kunikida is a member of the school idol group Aqours. She is a first-year high schooler and loves books. She has a unique way of speaking, referring to herself with the masculine pronouns ora and uses the dialectal zura on the end of her sentences. Love Live!! series’ idols ranked in both second and third place of the survey.
The two super popular characters Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan and Sanji from One Piece came in fourth place. One Piece‘s Sabo also came in at No.16. In fifth place is Bungo Stray Dogs‘ Ryunosuke Akutagawa. His birthday, 1 March, is the same as the famed Japanese writer’s who acts as his namesake.
There are various characters in the Top 20, but both female and male idols seem to shine. Even characters from older, but popular anime like Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen-mae Hashutsujo and Macross ended up in the ranking.
