Satoru Noda’s Golden Kamuy will get an anime adaptation, as it has been announced in Shueisha’s merged issue 36/37 of the Weekly Young Jump which was released on 3 August 2017.
Golden Kamuy is set in Hokkaido in the late Meiji era (1868-1912), when the gold rush broke out. A former soldier finds information about a gold treasure hidden by the Ainu. The Ainu are indigenous Japanese people, with many of them living in Hokkaido. Together with an Ainu girl, the soldier who goes by the nickname ‘Immortal Sugimoto’ (Fujimi no Sugimoto) starts to look for the gold. The manga won the 9th Manga Taisho award in 2016 and Volume 11 will be released on 18 August 2017. The newest issue of Young Jump will include a comment from Noda about the anime adaptation.
