CNN reported yesterday that one of the most famous Japanese suit actor of his generation, Haruo Nakajima, lost his life on Monday 7 August 2017 after succumbing to pneumonia. He was 88 years old.
Haruo played one of the most influential characters of post-war Japan. Sadly, not many people can recognize his face because that character was a huge monster created from the horrors of atomic war, Godzilla. Haruo put the suit in 12 Godzilla movies, from the 1954 debut Gojira to 1972’s Godzilla vs. Gigan. He is without doubt the most iconic suit stuntman in Japanese cinema and the first to give life to the King of Monsters.
