It has been announced that the worldwide online streaming service Netflix will stream the 2017 anime movie Godzilla produced by Toho. Netflix and Toho will attack the world again with Godzilla, who became once again a social phenomenon after the movie Shin Godzilla was released in 2016.
This is the first Godzilla anime in the monster’s 60 year-history. Two directors have been appointed for the task: Kobun Shizuno, who has directed the Detective Conan movies since 2011, and Hiroyuki Seshita, who worked as a director and general director on the TV series Ajin. The original story and screenplay will be written by Nitroplus’ Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass). The animation production will be handled by Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia, Star Wars: Clone Wars).
Shizuno commented, ‘My goal is to create a great entertaining movie for everyone, the fans that already like Godzilla and the people who don’t know anything about it yet. Look forward to it.’ His partner Seshita said, ‘With Gen Urobuchi and Director Shizuno, we have two unique people with great sense working on this movie, guaranteeing a great view on the world and a lot of action.’ Urobuchi commented: ‘It is a great honor to work on something with Godzilla in the title as a creator that was born in Japan. I will do my best to meet the expectations of everyone, and want to thank everybody who has supported me this far.’
Famous voice actors such as Takahiro Sakurai, Tomokazu Sugita, Junichi Suwabe, Kana Hanayawa and Mamoru Miyano will take part in this anime.
Netflix is a worldwide platform and it seems this anime will become a hot topic all around the world.
