The production of the Hollywood adaptation of Ghost in the Shell held a global launch event in Tokyo on November 13. They revealed the movie’s official poster and a full length trailer.
The trailer plays to the sound of a Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence remixby KI Theory and it features iconic shots from the anime. Scarlett Johansson, as The Major, dives off a building, fights in her thermal optic suit, shows us what happens inside her cybernetic shell, and introduces us to some of the series favorite characters. Pilou Asbæk plays Batou and seems like the perfect cast for the role. Takeshi Kitano as Aramaki brings the necessary native Japanese element to the movie. Many fans are quite upset by the fact that half the cast was, according to them, white-washed, but I believe that Scarlett is going to be amazing in the role.
The film will be distributed in the US by Paramount Pictures on March 31, 2017. It stars Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt. It’s directed by Rupert Sanders, written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss, and based on the popular manga by Masamune Shirow.
