Super Salaryman Saenai-shi (Super Salaryman Mr. Saenai), originally written by Fujiko F. Fujio, was adapted into a TV drama series. To commemorate this, the website Yahoo! has been showing a special short movie, part of a promotion campaign that started on January 11.
You can watch the limited-edition short movie by looking up the words ‘Super Salaryman Saenai-shi’ on Yahoo! In the first episode of the campaign video, Shinichi Tsutsumi (Saenai-shi), Kyouko Koizumi (Saenai-shi’s wife Enko), and the director Yuuichi Fukuda talk about the problem of the frequently misspelled characters in Saenai’s name.
Prior to the TV drama’s broadcast, three ‘Real Saenai-shis’ wearing super suits are taking a stroll around the Tokyo Metropolitan area. They will appear at many places until January 15, so if you are in Tokyo and see them walking around, try saying ‘Hi’ to them! On January 11, Ayumu Yokoyama, who plays the role of Saenai-shi’s son Moyao, appeared at a publicity event with the three Real Saenai-shis. He commented, ‘All three of them had the same hairstyles, same glasses, same clothes on, and it was very funny. They looked like triplets. But, I don’t think they resembled Daddy (Saenai-shi).’
The TV drama Super Salaryman Saenai-shi is based on Chuunen Superman Saenai-shi (Middle-aged Superman Mr.Saenai) which was serialized on Weekly Manga Action (Futabasha) from 1977 to 1978. Saenai is an ordinary middle-aged salary worker who one day receives a superhero suit from a mysterious man and is forced to protect the world, despite his unwilling feelings. The TV drama will air every Saturday at 21:00 starting from January 14, 2017 on Nippon TV.
