Furthermore, on 20 June 2018, an event took place in Tokyo’s Nippon TV Hall to celebrate the announcement of the anime, which was attended by Ootsuka and Toyonaga. Ootsuka pointed out that the greatest charm of the series is that its theme, a famous running event called Hakone Ekiden, is depicted in great detail and Toyonaga added that one can also take a look behind the scenes of Ekiden. They also talked about the pressure they feel, since the story is based on a youth novel which also has a manga adaptation, a stage adaptation, a radio drama, and a lot more.
Ootsuka said about the trailer, ‘I watched it while thinking “Will my voice fit in there?” I am really looking forward to working on this series!’ Toyonaga said, ‘As expected from I.G. I realized that I am involved in a great series.’ The event ended with messages sent in by director Kazuya Nomura and the original author Shiwon Miura.
The youth novel is revolving around a running event called Hakone Ekiden and started being published by Shinchosha in September 2009. The anime adaptation will be produced by Production I.V and directed by Kazuya Nomura. The series composition will be done by Kohei Kiyasu and character design provided by Takahiro Chiba.
