The story takes place in a 50-year-old corner-shop restaurant called Youshoku no Nekoya, close to the office district. The shop has an ordinary nameplate with a cat on it at its door, but once a week, during the Special Sale on Saturdays, the door will connect to another world. The customers coming through that door couldn’t be more different. They all are from different places, cultures, and races. The charm of this strange restaurant is that they all can taste the cooking without discrimination in a mysterious atmosphere. The story is a heartwarming display of connection that is not tied to where the customers are from. Some of them might even be a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
The anime is produced by Silver Link. The opening will be by ‘Wake Up, May’n!,’ a collaboration between Wake Up, Girls! and May’n, and the ending will be by Kiyono Yasuno, who will have her solo debut in July this year.
In the video we can see the shopkeeper (VA: Junichi Suwabe) and Aretta (VA: Sumire Uesaka), and right behind her is the dragon Kuro, who came from some other world to work at the restaurant. Voicing Kuro is Saori Onishi, who also voiced Eiri Spencer Sawamura in Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend and Ais in Sword Oratoria.
Onishi said, ‘Just to know that this work is about food already makes me excited!! The sight of other worlds is also beautiful and to see what kind of food and what kinds of characters will appear in the anime make me look forward to the anime as a viewer as well! I will portray the strange but cute Kuro-chan with great care!”
The image on the homepage was also updated by adding Kuro into the picture.
