Winter 2020 Anime: Official Info, Airdates & Trailers

It was decided that the manga Donten ni Warau: Gaiden (Laughing Under the Clouds Side Story) will get a theatrical anime adaptation. The movie will hit cinemas later this year in winter. It will be great to see the popular side story on the big screen.
The original manga Donten ni Warau by Kemuri Karakara was serialized in the monthly magazine Comic Garden. Set in the Meiji period, the samurai were stripped of their rights and started to rebel, rampaging across Japan. But even if they were taken to prison, they usually broke out, so a prison was built in a lake to keep them from escaping. To get the criminals into their cells, they now needed someone to transport them there, a role which the three Kumo brothers took on. After an anime series in 2014, a live action movie is set to be released in 2018.
Karakara drew the illustration you see above to commemorate the anime film’s announcement. The spin-off will tell the story of the days before and after the main events. WIT STUDIO (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) will produce the anime. We are only left to wonder if the cast and staff will liftour expectations even more. If you already know the story, the second volume of Donten ni Warau: Side Story was released on 14 March 2017 as well.
Kemuri Karakara said about this anime adaption: “Congratulations! And thank you so much! Once more the world of Donten ni Warau has begun to move. I am just happy. I told the director and screenwriter to create this movie so that those who saw the previous series as well as those who didn’t see it could enjoy it.
I don’t know how it will progress, but the story has been improved upon and it has already become more interesting. To get the chance to spend some more time with the guys that came alive through this anime. I can’t wait for this new start of Donten ni Warau.”
