Comment from Tsugumi Ohba (Death Note Author)
‘It was more interesting than I had imagined. This Death Note is a Hollywood production that was produced with high quality up to the tiniest detail. Personally, I am most intrigued by the end. A continuation? Will they make one? I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh] This movie keeps to the original but had some changes made in the best way possible, so everybody will be able to enjoy it.’
Comment from Takeshi Obata (Death Note Illustrator)
‘Thanks to Adam Wingard’s beautiful filming and thrilling directing, this movie is an A-class thriller. All the characters are sticking to their own desires, and it is a Death Note I thought about creating. I hope that with Netflix streaming this movie worldwide, people overseas who didn’t know Death Note yet, will be able to enjoy it.’
Comment from Masi Oka
‘This version of Death Note is built around the imagination of director Adam Wingard. It is different to the Japanese version in many aspects, but if you watch it, you will be able to see the respect and love the director carries for the original. During planning as well as during production, the original creators were asked many things and it was important for everyone that the final product would satisfy the original creators and fans.’
Comment from Adam Wingard
‘This story is so crazy that most production companies would have hesitated to make it a movie. I’m sure they would have tried to have toned it down. But Netflix let us do everything we wanted.’
