CoMix Wave Films, known for the Makoto Shinkai movies such as Your Name. and 5 Centimeters Per Second, will collaborate with Chinese production company Haoliners and produce 3 short anime movies under the title Shikioriori (lit. Poem of Seasons Woven Together) this summer. Hidamari no Choshoku (lit. Sunny Breakfast), Chiisana Fashion Show (lit. A Small Fashion Show) and Shanghai Koi (lit. Shanghai Love) are the titles for the three stories, all set in Chinese cities. The stories are three short anthologies featuring young people becoming adults with precious memories they don’t wish to lose, spun from the past to present.
Li Haolin, the representative of Chinese anime studio Haoliners, began admiring Makoto Shinkai after watching his 5 Centimeters Per Second movie. The project Shikioriori could only be realized because Li Haolin had continuously been sending enthusiastic offers to CoMix Wave Films.
The young team, in their early 30s, is a combination of talented Japanese and Chinese directors. The project members are Li Haolin as general director; Jiaoshou (Yi Zhenxing), part of the live action business, will make his anime debut; and Yoshitaka Takeuchi, CG chief and supporter of Shinkai works for various years, will be the director. The staff created warm stories with poetic pictures depicting a vibrant landscape in order to impress the viewers. The three anime movies will say stories that people across times and borders can sympathize with.
The theme of Hidamari no Choshoku is food. The movie is about young Xiaomin, who is working in Beijing and reflects on life growing up in the Hunan countryside. Chiisana Fashion Show‘s theme is clothing. The anime is portraying the Guangzhou sisters, popular model Irin and vocational school student Lulu, who lost their parents at young age. Shanghai Koi is set in a 1990 Shanghai and is a homage to 5 Centimeters Per Second.
The movies will be released in summer 2018 and will be shown at Theatre Shinjuku, Cine Libre Ikebukuro, and other theaters.
