It was announced that Chiruran Shinsengumi Chinkonka (Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem), the popular manga series on Monthly Comic Zenon published by North Stars Pictures, will be adapted into a stage play in April, 2017.
Chiruran Shinsengumi Chinkonka takes place during the Bakumatsu Period (the end of the Edo shogunate), just when a new era was about to begin. The story features the strong Shinsengumi members led by the tough vice-commander Toshizo Hijikata, and illustrates their friendship and life-threatening battles. The manga’s spin-off short anime adaptation Chiruran Nibun no Ichi (Chiruran One-Half) began in January 2017 and is currently on-air.
The cast members revealed in the first announcement were Tooru Iwaoka and Souta Hanamura, two members from the popular vocal group Da-iCE. Also included in the cast is Toshio Matsumoto, a member of EXILE who has also performed in the stage plays Gekidan EXILE: Matsu Gumi (Troupe EXILE: Team Matsu). Chiruran’s stage play will be directed by Shunichi Okamura, who also directed AZUMI Bakumatsu Hen (AZUMI: Bakumatsu Arc) and Shin Bakumatsu Junjouden.
Chiruran’s live stage will be shown at Morinomiya Piloti Hall in Osaka from April 7 to April 10, 2017. It will also be performed at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo from April 20 to April 30, 2017. More information on the stage play, including the remaining cast members, will be revealed on February 3. MANGA.TOKYO will be back with all the latest info!
