Keep warm this winter season with the latest anime info at MANGA.TOKYO!
E-book website BookWalker Global is expanding their selection of light novels in English with their first title offered as a BookWalker-first and 6-month exclusive: The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress (Tatakau Panya to Kikaiji kake no Kanbanmusume) by SOW and illustrated by ZAZA. The first volume of this series will debut on BookWalker in June 2017.
This popular action/fantasy light novel debuted in 2015 and has captivated readers with its unique setting, plot twists, and loveable characters.
The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress is about an ex-soldier who moves to a rural town to open a bakery. While he has no problem baking delicious bread, this battle-scarred veteran discovers that his intimidating demeanor is scaring off potential customers. What good is having a bakery if you can’t sell a single loaf of bread? Just when he’s ready to give up, a red-eyed, white-haired girl walks into his shop to ask for a job. Could she save his bakery? Just who is this beautiful girl? Is she even human?!
Originally published by HobbyJAPAN, The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress was recognized as one of the top rising light novels in Japan. It ranked #6 on the New Works list in the 2016 edition of Kono Light Novel Ga Sugoi (This Light Novel is Amazing), an annual guidebook that spotlights the most popular light novels in Japan, as selected by readers through an online poll. Past winners recognized by this poll include A Certain Magical Index and Book Girl (both also available from BookWalker).
The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress (the English title may possibly change) is just the first of many light novels that will be offered as a BookWalker-first title. They will debut in English on BookWalker Global, and will only be available on BookWalker for the first 6 months after release.
Although the translation costs for these light novels will be funded by BookWalker, the English language translation rights will belong to the original publisher. BookWalker says they hope that this initiative will allow a wider variety of titles to get released in English outside of Japan. Through this, there is the chance that more and more Japanese works will reach a global audience!
To celebrate the debut of The Combat Baker and His Automaton Waitress, BookWalker will be giving away special promo gifts, including the light novel, at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on 1-4 July 2017. Look for more exciting announcements on this and other special events planned at the BookWalker booth at AX 2017!
