Twenty years have passed since Boogiepop wa Warawanai (lit. Boogiepop Never Laughs; Boogiepop Phantom) light novel by Kohei Kadono (author) and Koji Ogata (illustrator) was published by MediaWorks in 1998. It has now been announced that Boogiepop will return this year with a new TV anime adaptation, 18 years after the first anime adaptation of Boogiepop wa Warawanai Boogiepop Phantom (lit. Boogiepop Never Laughs: Boogiepop Phantom) aired 12 episodes on TV Tokyo from January to March 2000.

A teaser visual, main staff, and two cast members have been revealed! The new Boogiepop wa Warawanai will be directed by Shingo Natsume, who directed the big hit One-Punch Man in 2015. Tomohiro Suzuki (scriptwriter for Tiger & Bunny, One-Punch Man) is in charge of series composition and script, and Hidehiko Sawada (key animator for One-Punch Man) is to design the characters. The music will be composed by Kensuke Ushio (Agraph) and the animation will be produced by Madhouse.
