Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe will be directing an animated sequel of the science fiction movie Blade Runner!
The story will have the title Blade Runner Blackout 2022 and is set in 2022, 27 years before the setting of the upcoming live-action sequel Blade Runner 2049.
Watanabe personally appeared in the announcement video and commented, ‘I tried to show the greatest respect to the previous work while not becoming an imitation.’
Short Film to Fill the Blank Space From 30 Years Ago
Even 35 years after its release, Blade Runner is still an important work in the science fiction world.
On 27 October 2017, Blade Runner 2049 will be released in Japan. Harrison Ford will come back as Blade Runner Deckard and Ryan Gosling will be joining him as Blade Runner K.
Ridley Scott, who directed the original movie, will be executive producer.
