On 9 February, Bandai Namco Holdings announced that the company is planning an organizational restructuring of its affiliated companies. Bandai Visual will be merging with its current subsidiary, record label Lantis, and from 1 April 2018 will become part of Bandai Namco Holdings’ new unit, Bandai Namco Arts. It has also been announced that the company will be pushing ahead with its production of music for movies and anime.
Bandai Namco Group’s new mid-term 3-year plan will take effect from April 2018.
In the current mid-term plan, the company will carry out their ‘IP Axis Strategy’ to maximize IP (Intellectual Property) value and now they are going to strengthen development in areas and businesses where growth potential seems to be high by following the new plan. The company is to change the organizational structure of the group towards the new mid-term plan. First, the operating company’s aggregation unit names will be changed from SBU (Strategic Business Unit) to Unit and the 3SBU structure will become a 5 Unit structure. The 5 units are Toy Hobby (Bandai), Network Entertainment (Bandai Namco Entertainment), Real Entertainment (Bandai Namco Amusement), Video Music Production (Bandai Namco Arts) and IP Creation (Sunrise).
Furthermore, the affiliated subsidiary’s reorganization will be put into practice and speedy priority strategies are aimed for.
The merge of Bandai Visual, which focuses on video production, and Lantis, which creates music, is attracting attention. Bandai Visual will unite as a merging corporation from 1 April and change its name to Bandai Namco Arts. The movie music production unit will be reborn as chief editor company.
Recently, anime’s artists and voice actor units’ live events are gaining popularity and the connection between video and music is getting stronger. We can expect a great development from this combination if they utilize their strengths. Furthermore, the establishment of the Bandai Spirits brand, which will specialize in the toy business was announced, and it was revealed that Namco will be running under the trade name ‘Bandai Namco Amusement’.
