The anime Gakuen Babysitters (School Babysitters), based on a manga by Hari Tokeino, held a pre-screening event at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku branch on 4 January 2018. Kotaro Nishiyama as Ryuichi Kashima, Nozomi Furuki as Kotaro Kashima, Yuichiro Umehara as Hayato Kamitani, and Yuko Sanpei as Taka Kamitani, appeared on stage.
At the event, which was the cast’s first job of the year, they talked about the year-end party, about how deep their relationships have become, and how they spent the first days of 2018.
Umehara talked about a real event where he had to babysit 7 children. Nishiyama revealed some details on how he gave his sister’s children New Year’s gifts (usually it is money given to a child by relatives and visitors). These were all moments the cast had as real babysitters.
The cast reappeared on stage after the screening of Episodes 1 and 2. Nishiyama and Umehara reproduced the scene where the babies sing the anime’s original song and the cast pointed out their favorite scenes.
To end the show, Nishiyama, who is in his first starring role, said: ‘It is such a warm, pure, and delicate anime, but you can feel the children’s power. I am very happy to be involved with this work. Let’s let our stress melt away!’
Gakuen Babysitters is a heartfelt comedy story, which is being serialized in LaLa (Hakusensha). It is about Ryuichi and Kotaro, who lost their parents in a plane crash. Morinomiya private nursery’s chairman, who lost his son and wife in the same accident, gives the boys a new home. In return, Ryuichi is working in the nursery room as a babysitter, taking care of the babies.
Volume 16 is the newest issue that has been released in Japan. Two versions are on sale: the normal version and one special version including a drama CD. The anime will air on TOKYO MX from 7 January.
