It has been announced on the cover of Monthly Comic Gene that Arata Aki’s manga Boku no Tonari ni Ankoku Hakaishin ga Imasu (There is a Dark God of Destruction Beside Me) will be getting an anime adaptation!
The story follows a high-school boy named Seri Koyuki, who has a very strong tsukkomi (straight-man) personality. This means he can’t help but give very straight-to-the-point comebacks to people’s stupidity. Koyuki’s pride doesn’t let him give these comebacks to attention seekers. Unfortunately, one of his classmates is one such attention-seeker and a textbook chunibyo by the name of Kabuto Hanadori. Hanadori is a flashy boy with an eyepatch over his right eye, and when it is removed, he becomes a dark god of destruction called Miguel Offenbarung-Dunkelheit (‘Revelations Darkness’)… or at least, that’s what he says. Almost every action he takes is asking for a comeback!
The paperback releases of BokuHaka have sold over 480,000 volumes so far, and focus on the lives of Koyuki, Hanadori, and their eccentric classmates.
In celebration of the anime announcement, an illustration and comment have been released by the manga’s author Arata Aki.
English translation: “An anime has been announced! It’s thanks to all the readers who have supported BokuHaka since the beginning of its serialization in 2013, thank you! I hope you can enjoy the ‘pay attention to me’ VS ‘I won’t pay attention to you!’ battle of these self-conscious boys in an animated format!”
Further information regarding the broadcast, cast and staff for the anime will be announced in future issues of Monthly Comic Gene and on the series’ official twitter account.
