Japanese pop group angela, who have sung theme songs for many different anime, announced at their first solo Budokan concert on 4 March 2017 that they will be singing the theme song for the Summer 2017 anime Aho Girl.
Starting in 2010, at the end of every year angela hold a live show called ‘Great Circus’. This time the concert was called ‘Special Great Circus’ and took place at the Budokan.
angela started in 1993 as a music unit (then stylized as ANGELA) formed by atsuko and KATSU. In May 1999 they made their official debut with the song memories, which was used as theme song for the anime Shin Hakkenden. In 2002 they were found by producer Go Nakanishi and once more made a major debut in 2003. Their song Shangri-La was used as theme song for the anime Sokyu no Fafner (Fafner in the Azure) and ranked 12th on the Oricon charts. After that, they kept having more and more hit songs.
At the entrance of the Budokan, a huge, luxurious red carpet welcomed the fans. Outside the venue, a clown entertained the fans, giving off a festive mood even before the actual concert. The group opened with Dead or Alive. During the talk, atsuko said, ‘It’s been 14 years since we debuted, 24 since we were founded…’ ‘Don’t cry!’ KATSU told the audience, who were already crying tears of happiness for them. The feelings that the duo itself and the fans of angela had for this concert at Budokan were impressive.
Halfway through the live concert, their producer Nakanishi announced that angela would be singing the theme song for the Summer 2017 anime Aho Girl. The anime is about an impossibly stupid high school girl, who rampages through the world like nobody else. We can’t wait to see how angela’s song will complement the series.
angela has been an active unit and an anison contributor for 14 years and they continue to grow. MANGA.TOKYO will keep an eye on them and bring you all the latest news!
