A year after its launch, Amazon decided to end its anime streaming service Anime Strike. After much criticism regarding its double subscription model, its entire lineup for Anime Strike and Heera—an Amazon channel specializing in Bollywood entertainment—has been transferred to Prime Video and is now available to all Prime subscribers. The service has also shut down all its social media pages.
When Amazon decided to enter the anime-streaming race in North America, it created a dedicated anime channel called Anime Strike. The service included more than a thousand anime episodes and movies and a few exclusive simulcasts per season (Kuzu no Honkai, Made in Abyss, Inuyashiki), and it was available to Prime users for an extra $4.99 monthly subscription fee.
With more Amazon users being given access to its entire anime catalog and with more giants like Netflix joining the anime streaming scene, it remains to be seen what that will mean for smaller streaming services.
