Hello! I am Kitahata, the editor-in-chief at MANGA.TOKYO. I live in Japan and turn press releases from Japanese companies into articles that are easy for those outside of Japan to understand. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
The live action movie adaptation of the manga Ajin will be released in Japanese cinemas on 30 September 2017. Takeru Sato, in his role as protagonist Kei Nagai, shows what he is capable of in the new 30-second teaser trailer for the movie.
Nagai has just found out he is a demi-human (Ajin) who can’t die. The text that blinks in rhythm with the music, reads: ‘That day, I knew. That I was an Ajin.’ Next, a wild hunt around the nation starts. If you look closely, you can see him hold a gun to his own head! Another character appearing in the short trailer is the undead terrorist Sato, played by Go Ayano. He jumps from a building and engages in a gunfight!
The story is based on the original manga by Gamon Sakurai. It has been running in the magazine Good! Afternoon since 2012. It’s a popular suspense-action story about Kei Nagai who discovers he’s an Ajin and thus he is being hunted down by the government. The cast for the movie is made up of popular actors. Takeru Sato and Go Ayano are playing together for the second time, the first time being in the live action movie Rurouni Kenshin.
Tetsuji Tamayama is taking on the role of Yuu Tosaki, a member of the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare. He is a cold-hearted guy who doesn’t even blink an eye when he sees an Ajin getting mistreated. Other members of the cast are Yu Shirota, Yudai Chiba, and Yuki Yamada, all are part of the pro-Ajin movement. The female cast of the movie includes Rina Kawaei and Minami Hamabe.
The director of the movie is Katsuyuki Motohiro (Psycho-Pass series, Bayside Shakedown series). The action team is the same as the one in the Rurouni Kenshin movies.
