New character visuals have been released for the stage play Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso), based on the original manga by Naoshi Arakawa. They also announced five additional cast members.
The visuals for the four characters Tsubaki Sawabe (Misato Kawauchi), Ryota Watari (Masanari Wada), Emi Ikawa (Haruka Yamashita), and Takeshi Aiza (Shojiro Yokoi) were released along with their comments. Kawauchi plays Tsubaki who has a crush on Kousei and showed her enthusiasm towards the play saying, ‘I want to try my hardest, showing all the charms of the stage play so that we won’t lose to the original.’ Wada, who plays Kousei’s childhood friend and soccer player, Ryota, commented, ‘I have been friends with Shintaro Anzai (Kousei Arima) for a while now and I would like to express the relationship between Watari and Kousei like my own relationship with Shintaro’, showing the cast’s teamwork.
The additional cast has also been decided. Takako Nakamura will play Yuriko Ochiai, Ikawa’s instructor. Mikami Jun will play Aiza’s instructor Akira Takayanagi, and Haruka Igarashi will play Tsubaki’s friend from the softball club Nao Kashiwagi. Kuniko Kodama will play the world famous pianist Hiroko Seto and Kousei’s mother, Saki Arima will be played by Ryoko Tanaka.
Your Lie in April is a youthful story which depicts prodigy pianist Kousei who suffers from a traumatic past, a violinist called Kaori, and their growth as they each enhance the other. The stage play tells the story from when Kousei and Kaori meet up until the end.
The play will run in Tokyo from 24 August until 3 September at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo and in Osaka from 7 September until 10 September at Umeda Arts Theater Drama City. The second round of the ticket raffle began on the play’s official website on 13 May 2017.
