We’re sure you already know that 3-gatsu no Lion is going to have a second cour in Winter 2017. MANGA.TOKYO has found out that from January 7, 2017, the anime’s opening theme song will shift to Sayonara Bystander, written by YUKI. We managed to get an official comment from YUKI regarding the song as well as her message for the author, Chika Umino.

Official Comment from YUKI

‘I’m really delighted to have the chance to sing 3-Gatsu no Lion’s opening theme song. Although I’m a singer, unconnected with the competitive world, I always sing while struggling with myself. When I constantly question myself as to whether or not this is really what I want to do, I keep abandoning myself to the joy of singing. Although Rei and I don’t seem to have any connection, there are actually many things I can sympathize with, like for example Rei’s irresistible silent pleasure to play shogi that drags him into the deeper world of shogi.

For better or worse, someone else’s influence can change people’s lives dramatically. Looking back on my own life, it seems that my life has always been influenced by many others. However, at this point of time I have decided to keep a distance from the bystander living inside myself. The time has come. I have expressed my strong resolution in the song Sayonara Bystander. It’s both fun and tough to see Rei try to stand on his own feet in order to protect the girl he loves. I’ve been rooting for him while reading the comic.

Ms. Umino, while I was having trouble solving the formula to cook boiled eggs, I could finally make it by practicing your method. Thank you so much Ms. Umino! I love your work that is filled with a variety of feelings.’

The current opening theme song, Answer, give us the feeling of going to a bright, wide-open place from somewhere tight and dark and it goes perfectly with the Rei’s situation.
