The AFFT 2017 100 years of Anime Anniversary Talk & Live ~Tsubasa wo motsu monotachi~ event was held on 13 and 14 October. The event gathered popular artists like Shoko Nagakawa on the first evening and Wake Up, Girls! on the second.
Project Anime NEXT_100 is an event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Japanese anime and was part of the Anime Film Festival Tokyo 2017 (AFFT2017) program. The participating artists of AnimeNEXT_100’s official song ‘Tsubasa wo motsu monotachi~Not an angel Just a dreamer~’, which is due to go on sale on 25 October, performed on stage. Executive producer Kohei Tanaka prepared the talk and the live stages along with other artists.
The first evening started with MC Shoko Nagakawa’s shoutout ‘Do you like anime songs!?’. With Ichiro Mizuki the first on the list, many legends of the anime song world gathered and revealed inside stories from the production of the official song.
Executive producer Kohei Tanaka said: ‘When Tokyo was chosen for the Olympic games, I strongly felt that we had to do something with Japanese anime and anime songs. Therefore we had to combine them.’ He also revealed that the production seemed to be difficul. He could have written the song by himself, but asking for Aki Hata, Shoko Fujibayashi, and Noriyasu Agematsu’s help made it easier and worked out really well.
Nakagawa, who is known for being a big anime fan commented: ‘Anime are like period drama. With these creators gathering for the 100-year history of the medium and because of the love their creators had, they were able to break down all barriers. I am impressed that everyone’s beloved place is completed.’
The full version of the music video, which contains scenes of its recording, was presented the first time at the event and received kudos and cheering from the audience.
When Wake Up, Girls! came on stage, they said that they’re still new but very happy to be part of this event and that they will do their best in the future. Wake Up, Girls!’ love-filled live performance left the audience fascinated.
Both new and legendary artists did a great job together and held a promising second evening.
The music video’s full version is viewable on YouTube until 24 October 19:00 (JST).
