Introduction

The continent is a place where chaos dominates everything.
People are fearing the chaos and the destruction it brings, but there are lords who can calm the chaos with a holy seal they have, and so they protect the people and live with them. But soon the lords start to fight each other over the seals, wanting to gather power instead of protecting people. And in the midst of that is the magician Silka, who hates the lords for forgetting their duty in the world, and Theo, who went away from his town to search for a way to free it from its political pressure.
When they meet, Silka tricks Theo into a master-servant contract after hearing his ideas for this world. And so they try to bring change to the continent, buried in war.

Adaptation

The anime is based on a light novel series written by Ryo Mizuno and illustrated by Miyu. The series is being published by Fujimi Shobo since 2013 and is still running, with 9 volumes out as of November 2017. Since June 1016, a manga adaptation is being produced and serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal. A spin-off light novel titeld Grancrest Adept: Mushoku no Seijo, Soen no Kenshi was published in September 2013.

The series is written by the same person as Record of Lodoss War, however they don’t seem to be connected.
