Introduction

In the world, there is a massive hole called the Abyss that lies within the undiscovered, final mystical spot. Inside this bottomless massive hole, there are mysterious creatures and highly valuable relics that can’t be crafted with current technology. The Abyss’s huge presence that is filled with numerous enigmas has urged people to embark on a great adventure. The adventurers who challenge the hole have come to be referred to as Tankutsuka (cave adventurers).
Orphan girl Riko lives in a city surrounding the hole and dreams of one day becoming a great Tankutsuka like her mother, and solve the mysteries lying inside Abyss. One day, while she is exploring in the hole, she picks up a boy-shaped robot…

Adaptation

Made in Abyss is a manga series written by Akihito Tsukushi and published in Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma. The story has also been collected in 6 tankobon volumes as of September 2017 and is still running.
