On a big ship drifting through the sand called Mud Whale live two kinds of people. Shirushi have a special ability called ‘saimia’, which is based on their feelings and allows them to only have a short life. The others are Muin, enjoying a long life but without special abilities. The story starts when Chakuro, who thought he would live a short life on the Mud Whale without ever getting to know the rest of the world, finds the girl Rikosu in a ship wreck that drifted into the Mud Whale.
