Synopsis of the seventeenth episode: The Battle Without Will Power
On the second day of the qualification prelims of Miyagi prefecture, both teams give it their all from the very beginning of the game. Unfortunately, Karasuno’s captain Sawamura gets hurt by accident. Facing the emergency, Karasuno team brings on “the” back-up captain.
Daichi and Tanaka
It’s my fault.
Tanaka blames himself for causing the accident, but Daichi and other team members don’t let him. The interactions subsequent to the accident show how teamwork works in its finest. Tanaka thinks his action caused Daichi to inflict the damage, which exemplifies his genuine character, however, at the same time, simply being a good person doesn’t help him to play aggressively. It made me realize how difficult it is to play sports competitively.
Chikara Ennoshita shines
The spotlight of this episode goes to the backup captain, Ennnoshita senpai. The story reveals his past, how he has had escaped, how remorseful he has been ever since, and how he leveraged the shame to his strength he has today. No one is lucky enough to keep winning and never needed to cheat. I bet many of our readers sympathized with Ennoshita senpai. Have you?
Many of the things in our lives ultimately boil down to this: how fulfilled you are right now. Anyway, that’s how I think.
Yamaguchi runs away
I almost cried, for real. I totally understand his insecurity, an urge to run away. He’s cornered. His impulse takes him over, convincing him that it’s better to run away. That scene excellently illustrates how weak Yamaguchi felt and acted. The Karasuno’s coach walks up to Yamaguchi in rage. But again, Ennoshita intervenes, because he knows. Ah, tears.
Every episode of this show delivers sports and school life drama in a straight shot, I really enjoy it each and every time.
So the second match began with the huge accident. The story focuses on the team’s hardships without their trusted captain.
I’m looking forward to the next episode!
