Mikado and Masaomi finally achieved their reunion. As if this event is a cue to everything else in the world, the story moves down quickly toward the climax… leaving a cliffhanger moment at the end. Let’s review the highlights from the 35th episode!

Synopsis: Episode 35

Away from the city’s noise and confusion created by multiple forces rubbing each other’s shoulders, Mikado and Masaomi quietly privately come face to face. Mikado has a hand gun in his hand. Masaomi continues his persuasive speech.

At the same time, Shinra is wandering around the city to figure out Celty’s whereabouts. He runs into Kasane, who had kidnapped him earlier. She offers explanation why she had to do it.

On the other hand, Kadota and his team receive a visit from Izumii, who informs them that Mikado is the current leader of Blue Square.

Highlights 1: Retrospectives

This episode’s spotlight definitely goes to the reunion of Mikado and Masaomi.

They finally come face to face; however, Mikado is a totally different person; Mikado can’t help showing his surprise and confusion.

Mikado proclaims that today is the day he terminates the Dollars, and then, points his gun at Masaomi.

What has forced Mikado to resort to this extreme behavior?

Masaomi accuses himself that it is because he didn’t fully understand Mikado. But, I don’t think that is the only reason.

I think the critical moment came when Izaya accused Mikado of his abnormality. “I bet you want to get out of your mundane life, but you know what, you are the type of people who quickly get used to unusual things.”

Izaya was right, because, Mikado founded the Dollars because he had a deep desire for irregularity. But, once the Dollars settled in a routine cycle, Mikado didn’t find it intriguing, in the end he was back in the same trap of everyday life.

It is obvious that Mikado is deeply affected by Izaya’s remarks. But that’s not the reason why Mikado went insane. Mikado himself was rotten to the core, and that is the root cause.

If Mikado was able to admit that and ask for help, then, there might have been another scenario; however, he only had two individuals in whom he could have confided his secret – Masaomi and Anri. The two of them run away from Mikado. Aoba was in the same position as Masaomi and Anri. But, Aoba didn’t win the same amount of credibility from Mikado. So, that leaves Mikado to get rotten as further as he can possibly goes.

Masaomi keeps trying to persuade Mikado, but, Mikado ended up shooting Masaomi.

And then, Masaomi realizes what he has done, the weight of his choices. The Dollars are out of his control. His own behavior is out of his control. In order to put an end to everything, this time, Mikado turns the shot gun to his own head.

What is he going to do to himself? What is going to happen next? This is true suspense, I can’t help thinking about the next story.

Highlight 2: Shinra and Kasane

Speaking of an unexpected story, we need to look at two individuals who are going through surprising relationships.

Shinra sets out to Ikebukuro in order to find out where Celty is, and to his surprise, he runs into Kasane, who had kidnapped him and threw him into a car.

The unexpected relationship starts here. Kasane confesses her hidden feelings toward him. In her logic, if Shinra can love an abnormal being like Celty, then, Kasane can be entitled for a romantic relationship with a man. She confesses that she loves Shinra.

On the other hand, Shinra loves Celty and nobody else. He doesn’t want anybody else in his life. He declines Kasane, explains that he is unable to respond to her love.

Come to think of it, Kasane rushed in to their apartment and abruptly kissed Shinra on his lips. Kasane showed her jealousy against Celty. I was wondering where that is coming from, but, the answer was quite straightforward. She loves Shinra. Until now I thought she is a creature of subzero emotion. This story betrayed me in a good sense to show that Kasane has deep emotions.

Well how was it?

In the next episode, Izaya and Shizuo’s confrontation will continue, and, Kadota’s van team joined by Karisawa will probably show their next move.

I’m already looking forward to seeing the climax!
