Synopsis of the fifth episode
A number of strange events surrounds the mystic Lake Yasogami – it is because an erosion of memory stored in “Numbers” affects the real world events. Ghosts infest the hotel and attack human beings who either stay or roam around the lake. Kyoma and Mira, despite the difficulties with the ghosts, gradually get one step closer, by the help from Albert and Ellie, to the truth; what had really happen 21 years ago, at the Lake Yasogami?
Highlight: Truth behind the history
Highlight 1: Who killed Sakaki?
Let’s begin with the true culprit of the Sakaki murder. It’s … the ghosts, as rumor had it, and now it is confirmed. These ghosts are the habitants of Lake Yasogami. They have liquid bodies and normally move around in the mist over and around the lake.
If you remember, Sakaki’s room at the hotel is equipped with a water dispenser. The water was sourced from the Lake Yasogami. That is why the ghost appeared.
How did the ghost materialize in the first place, you ask? They consist of memories and the power of The Numbers. These memories belong to a young man named Kamiki, who actually was Sakaki himself 21 years ago. Additionally, these memories are not an ordinary reflection of events of the past. It is very specific memories about the “possibility” where Kamiki was able to save his friends from the accident of 21 years ago.
Highlight 2: What did really happen 21 years ago?
The accident took place 21 years ago. Kamiki’s girl friend, Enamori, killed a man who attempted to rape her. That time, the villagers of Yasogami worked together to stop the new dam instigation, by putting up a campaign that use of The Numbers is a better option than a dam. Kamiki, in an attempt to wipe out his girlfriend’s crime evidence, planned to let the dam discharge its stock water to inundate the crime scene. Enamori run to the village, in order to alert the villagers about the dam discharge and to move The Numbers to somewhere safe. However, she slipped and was knoked off unconscious. On the way back from the dam to the village, Kamiki saw that his village friends were all trapped in the building, while the entire village was flooded with a massive body of water. The building was about to sink.
At this point, due to the power of The Numbers, the world got split into two ways – one is this real world, the other is the world that could have been possible.
Kamiki in the real world failed to save his friends, but he was able to save his girlfriend.
In the other world, Kamiki saved all his friends, but, let the Enamori die. Kamiki’s assumed memory was produced by The Numbers, and continued to affect the real world, in the form of ghosts.
Highlight 3: So, then, who switched the water dispenser content to lake water?
Back to the water dispenser in the murdered Sakaki’s hotel room, somebody switched the regular drinking water with water from the lake. It was a maid who worked for Sakaki at that time. Her father had worked at the dam administrative office 21 years ago. When Kamiki discharged the water from the dam, he killed one guy who was on duty. That guy was the farther of the maid. She confessed to the detective that she “heard the voice of her father instructing her to swith the water in the water dispenser.”
In the end, it was the ghost who killed Kamiki.
How was it?
It is super duper dense plot, isn’t it?
I’m looking forward to the next story already!Anime Review of “Dimension W” – #04
