And you thought there is never a girl online?
In a MMORPG called ‘Legendary Age (LA)’ with swords acts and magic, Hideki Nishimura as ‘Rusian’ declares his love to a female game character. However, it turns out to be ‘Oops! She is actually a HE!’…Because of this experience, Rusian (Nishimura) is now traumatized to be fooled again. However, within this online game, he still gets ‘married’ to a female character ‘Ako’ for her proactive marriage proposal. There is an offline gathering planned among those guild characters. Feeling both excited and anxious, Rusian heads out for the gathering. Who shows up on the day…?
When I heard this title for the first time, I simply and slightly assumed that the main girl would actually be a guy…but she turned out to be a genuine girl! Moreover, she is totally beautiful! Such a winner!
I have to admit that I get jealous of this main character…but, anyway, let me go over the story.
The story begins with a flashback in the online game.
In this flashback, Ako tells Rusian that she has feelings for him. Although, Rusian rejects her feelings first, she eventually wins him over and they get married.
Then, they move onto the next scene, where they challenge a level-up stage with their guild ‘Ally Cats’.
This ‘Ally Cats’ consists of 4 members; Rusian plays as an armor knight, Ako as a cleric, Shwein as a swordsman and the guild master Apricot as a wizard.
Thanks to the guild master’s well-spent real money, they ‘again’ successfully beat the enemies.
Then, the scene changes to the reality, a classroom at a high school.
When Nishimura, a.k.a. Rusian, is having a chat with his friends about anime in this season, a female classmate Akane calls him gross.
After that, on the way to the gym for a school assembly, a strange girl bumps into him and runs away without saying anything.
On that night, having a regular conversation with other guild members online, he ends up telling them why he was so reluctant to accept Ako’s proposals.
He explains that it is because of his trauma caused by a female character that he once fell in love with. It turned out that she was actually HE, a mid-aged man in reality.
Shwein and Apricot both crack up, but Ako insists that she is a girl for real.
Rusian doesn’t take it seriously at all, so the guild master Apricot decides to hold an offline get-together.
On the day of the gathering, Akane, Ako and Kyo from high school turn up at the meeting spot.
What is going to happen from now on?
There are funny bits popping up here and there. Ako uses so-called ‘Buront expressions’ like ‘certainly certain’ and ‘my life is stressed and shortened at Mach speed’.
You also notice something like ‘Don’t be such Yamcha’…or a term ‘keyboard crasher’. There are plenty more gag-cracking jokes throughout the episode.
The second highlight would be a dark past of the main character.
It may be quite possible to encounter a pretty girly avatar in an online RPG, but played by a mid-aged man in reality.
You can’t really blame Rusian to be a loner in the game if he struggles to get over the dark past of declaring his love to an older man.
I have no idea where this story is directed to so I’m looking forward to Episode 2. I hope you feel the same. See you all around!
