Episode 08 Visit Nanaki Before Doubting Masaki
This was Masaki’s second time to come to Nanaki Village…
She had been to Nanaki Village before with her cousin, Reiji, going through the mountains.
On the way back, Reiji was attacked by a monster, and Masaki fell from a cliff while running.
The reason why Masaki came back to Nanaki Village was to rescue Reiji who had been left in the village. However, her explanation had some perplexing parts, and she was blamed. Suddenly, a bus came by and the driver pulled in in front of Masaki and Mitsumune, and drove away keeping us in the dark if the two were on it or not.
Mitsumune’s past was shown. The penguin-like monster belonged to his brother, Tokimune who died when he was little. Tokimune died by falling from a fence. His mother was shocked so much she started call Mitsumune Tokimune even when he became a highschooler. His dad even called him Tokimune.
His family killed the existence of Mitsumune, and he lost his place in school as well. He had lost his existence and his meaning of life. The reason why he attended in “Start Your Life Over Tour” was to restart as Mitsumune.
He said his handle name was his real name, so he was trying to show everyone that he is “Mitsumune,” not Tokimune. His situation was too tragic.
Masaki cheered Mitsumune up, and she walked into the back of the tunnel thinking she could go back to the real world. They knew they needed to face themselves to go through the tunnel, what means facing their traumas. The monsters the participants saw are their traumas. They won’t be able to go back to the real world unless they overcome them. Many of the participants want to stay in the village instead. Overcoming traumas is not easy. Even Mitsumune was followed by a monster and he chose to run.
The mysteries are solved gradually, and more mysteries are added simultaneously. What exactly is the real world? Is it the world where Mitsumune and the other people have been living in? Or a completely different world? Masaki’s real nature is still veiled, and the village still holds a lot of mysteries. When all the mysteries are solved, what would all the participants see and think? Will they find happiness? I can’t take my eyes off of the later episodes.
