Episode 06 The Monk’s Immorality
Mitsumune was locked up in the cell by Mikage and the others, but Masaki released him. However, something unusual was going on in the village. Their traumatized paranoid dreams started taking definite forms for each of them there. A huge stuffed penguin for Mitsumune, the sound of a temple block and sutra reading for Lovepon, wasps for Nyanta, a huge silicon boob for Jigoku no Gouka. They are being chased by their own traumas that nobody else can see…
Is this horror or occult?
We now see a new interpretation there the character’s traumas go chasing after each of them.
Many of you may be baffled by the weird scenes of strange objects related to each character’s trauma appearing. Those traumas only chase them but never attack them. What does that mean? They appear to be each character’s illusions rather than actually existing spiritual figures.
The mysteries are piled up but the story doesn’t go anywhere.
Those traumas do not give effect to the story itself much either. They just reveal the background stories of the characters without foreshadowing much, and only frustrate us further when we desperately want to know where the story is going.
Why Lovepon was always screaming for an “execution”, Nyanta’s past… Each of their traumatized past gave us a gloomy and dismal feeling.
Being abused by a lousy adult, being bullied, disqualified for enlistment, a job ended in failure… All of these are so depressing and somewhat understandable that they wanted to start over. Watching these and to learn about them, we now finally have some empathy for the characters.
However, the issue I have here is that the story does not show any signs of development.
It’s nice that we found out why each of them decided to join this tour, but we got even more mysteries piled up in front of us. I’m not sure if offering us loads of unsolved mysteries without developing the story is a good move. We have already reached the midway point of the cour, and the show keeping still with this method kind of worries me.
We were given another new mystery that Masaki has the same name as a missing person, and we are completely lost now, losing leads to any clues.
What is concealed in this village? With more and more mysteries piled up, I’m building up frustrations further. All I can do now is to hope for some clues being revealed very soon.
