Episode 02 Blinding Mist
A graduate student, Koharun, who was researching about the mysterious Nanaki village, joins the party, and the tour bus proceeds deep into the mountains. When the bus forces into a narrow mountain road, the light goes out and the bus slips off the road. Leaving the furious bus driver behind, the party members decide to walk to the village. Walking the mountain path all night long, they finally reach a village that appears to be their destination. While the party is overjoyed to find their new world, a shadowy figure is watching them…
The boys and girls aiming to start their new life survived a horrible accident of their bus slipping off the road, and finally reached a village that appeared to be the Nanaki village. However, the village has no sign of residents. The houses look like abandoned for over a year. It still has a pay phone and a bus stop, so we can assume that this village once existed on a map. Was this village abandoned for falling population to merge with another?
In addition to this village, the behaviors of each character in the show are all shrouded in mystery.
Koharun, who was asking for information on the Nanaki village, received an e-mail about it. She seems convinced that this is the Nanaki village by the information brought by an unidentified person. The fact that she hasn’t even investigated the information in advance and that she is not carrying a copy of the e-mail troubles me.
She is on the hosting side, yet her behaviors is obviously worrying the attendees, and the mystery only thickens.
Is she really convinced that this is the Nanaki village this unidentified person informed her of? Why did this company, SSD, plan a tour without any preliminary surveys? Was it highly credible? Or is it related to something else? Either way, we cannot find an answer. The mysterious e-mail sender may have something to do with the story in the future.
We see a shadowy figure in the village, and several characters have seen it too. Since the village has been abandoned for a year, it can not be a villager. This figure may be the e-mail sender.
The bus driver said “I’ll have to watch over you”. He witnessed something in the bus, so it is possible that someone has instructed him to do what he is doing.
Two people disappeared in the show. Were they taken away by the shadowy figure, or are they simply just lost? It is quite clever of the show that either is possible. They may just reappear in the third episode as if nothing happened.
The second episode left us an even deeper mystery.
Their “new life” does not seem to make it a simple human drama of living in an isolated place away from civilization.
Scattered mysteries. Unsettling relationships. The show hooks us in while we are not sure if this is going to be a horror or mystery show.
