Episode 6 Summary
Facing the soldiers who have the Vars Syndrome which causes an uncontrollable aggressiveness, Chaos and the New Joint Forces are losing but barely. Hayate attacks only his opponent’s wings instead of the cockpit, and Messer strictly says he is a softy so he will lose his life.
1 -To fight, which is to risk your life
One of the highlights of the Macross series is the action scene of the transformable machines, Valkyries.
Especially, when the Valkyries transform in space while they are fighting is very unique and powerful.
So far, the Valkyries fought only in the atmosphere on earth in the Macross Delta series, but in episode 6 they also fight in space.
In episode 6, you can watch the Valkyries fight in space.
By the way, in the beginning of episode 6, Messer lectures Mirage and Hayate about their flying skills. Saying, both aim for their opponent’s plane wings instead of the pilots, so they will be hunted by them.
Fighting is crueler than you think.
2 -Agony of an A-student, Mirage
Mirage’s grandparents are genius pilots of the first generation of Macross; their names are Max and Milia Jenius. Although Mirage is proud of her family, she is concerned if she has the excellent flying skills her grandparents had. Her skills are excellent and one of the best, but they are very by the book, so enemies read her moves easily. She suffers because she can’t be better than she currently is as you can see when she bites her lips when she feels frustrated.
Freia becomes passionate about dancing, Hayate about being a pilot, but what about Mirage?
3 -What does the Windermere Kingdom want to do?
The Windermere Kingdom sends off a declaration of war to the New Joint Forces. The trump card of the Windermere army is the song of Heinz II, which triggers the Vars Syndrome.
Since he collapses after singing a little bit, it seems like singing is such a burden for him. It is shocking that Keith, one the Aerial Knights, orders Heinz II to keep singing although his life gets shorter every time he sings.
Keith and Heinz II are half brothers sharing the same father. It seems like Heinz doesn’t hate Keith. Their relationship is complicated.
4 -Hayate’s first experience in fighting in space
Hayate works hard to put Messer to shame because he is strict during their lectures. He tells Mirage to work hard too, and he experiences his first fight in space. The fight of the Delta platoon starts with the WALKÜRE’s song. Their song echoed throughout space.
Since space is dark, the light of the flames and missiles are vigorous when the machines explode.
The Delta platoon fights the Aerial Knights on small asteroids, while Hayate shows his great pilot skills in battle. Even enemies say “Hayate is dancing with the winds” when he uses one of his techniques, the Immelmann dance. When Bogue, the Aerial Knight, tried to attack the ship on which WALKÜRE is singing, Hayate saves Freia. At this time, Hayate kills Ghoula, a new member of the Aerial Knights. This is the first he has killed someone. Hayate notices how cruel fighting is, the audience sees this as well.
5 -Triangular finally starts
The biggest highlight muzikrecord(t_docile) recommends in this episode is the conversation between Hayate and Mirage.
After the fight, Mirage comes to Hayate while he is watching the setting sun. She talks to him about killing a person for the first time. She talks to him formally in a commanding tone back and forth awkwardly, the empathy felt between them pushed him to work harder.
Meanwhile, Freia is listening to their conversation from around the corner. She looks just like Ranka in Macross Frontier. There are no romantic emotions between them so far, but this scene is very exciting for Macross Frontier fans.
New song in WALKÜRE’s battle scene
When they fight in space, WALKÜRE sings to the New Joint Forces which are controlled by the Vars Syndrome. The imagery of WALKÜRE is wonderful as well, and the song she sings is the newly released “Walkure Attack!”
This song is not Pop music but Rock music, and the Rock-like riffs sound soothing. As the title shows, the song is aggressive and fits in speedy, tense fighting scenes.
It is amazing that Macross Delta creates new songs so frequently.
Well, I found some mysteries in the last scene:
What is the huge hole in the ground on planet Windermere IV?
What is the infiltration strategy of the new planet?
You can’t miss the exciting expansion of the Macross Delta universe.
muzikrecord(t_docile) is anxious about Macross Delta’s new songs that are coming in the future.
