Hello everyone! It’s been another week and we have yet a new episode of Fukigen na Mononokean. This episode especially caught my interest because we got some plot development. The overall lively and carefree mood was still there but I bet that soon enough there will be some changes due to the plot developments.
Now let us not dwell too much onto the introduction and get down to business.
The thing that got me most interested and intrigued was getting to know some more about Abeno. There was a statement that the second, that is the current master of Mononokean killed the previous master and that’s how he became the top person at Mononokean. Well, now let’s look at all the facts that we know about the Mononokean and Abeno. We know that Mononokean is a sort of a place which helps youkai with their problems in human world. We know that the room itself is a youkai, and that the previous owner of Mononokean was also a youkai. We know that Abeno, the current master of Mononokean is a human, and probably killed the previous master to get where he is now and that almost nobody in the Underworld knows that he is a human. Lastly, youkai in the underworld are pretty scared of Abeno. Now this adds up to my theory that something traumatic happened to Abeno in the past but I do refuse to believe that he killed the previous master. I also started to think that maybe Abeno used to be an assistant at Mononokean, just like Hanae is now.
Now let’s talk a bit about Hanae. I’ve mentioned a couple of times that Hanae is this really kind boy who wants to help everyone who is in need of help, be it a human or a youkai. When asked if he is willing to help youkai while being a human by Rippo (a character I will come back to in a bit) Hanae gave the most unexpected answer. He said that while being a human he has never really thought of doing something special for humankind, so of course he isn’t sure about his feelings toward youkai, but either way he wants to help those who are in need of help. He talked about his experiences with the youkai since he started helping Abeno with Mononokean, and that those were pretty much positive. I agree with that, but I honestly do not think that all of his upcoming experiences will be as positive and pleasant. Another thing I want to mention about Hanae is the fact that some sort of menacing and powerful aura was all around him when he saw Moja Moja get hurt by another youkai, such a strong aura that it even scared the youkai who was trying to kill him. Now I wonder if this has anything to do with his bloodline, since both Abeno and Rippo showed interest in him after hearing his name. Well, we will find out with due time won’t we.
Now then, let’s talk about Rippo himself. Apparently, he is one of the big guys in the Underworld and he makes the rules. The rules made by Rippo must be followed at all costs. This gives us an image of a very powerful and a strong youkai, but when we actually got to see him, he seemed to be laid back and made most of his rules just as a whim. And one of such whims was making Moja Moja the second assistant of the Mononokean. This was one of the nicest turnarounds in the episode, because Moja Moja is an extremely cute character and I am so happy we will get to see much more of him (or her?). Lastly, the description of Rippo given by Abeno made me chuckle. You can’t have an anime without fan-service can you? And of course, next to all the pretty boys we now have a siscon youkai. That’s a first for me, to be honest. It felt like the writers tried to make the youkai quite more humane than they are in other shows.
Well, in conclusion today, this episode had the most development so far. We learnt quite a lot of new things about the main two characters, got introduced to some more characters and had a reappearance of characters we have already met in the previous episodes. I am looking forward to the following episodes, to find out some more background information about both Abeno and Hanae. I won’t be surprised if Hanae turns out to be not your regular boy. But let’s not get ahead of the times.
And that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed the episode. See you next week!
