As soon as Manga.Tokyo gets new info, you’ll be the first to know. But for now, let’s see how Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei concluded its Summer 2016 run.
Japanese Title: 繋いだ奇跡
The episode was half action, half fan-service / comedy. It was to be expected since no one actually believed that this was going to be a conclusion, and the recent movie announcement clarified just that.
The first half concluded the battle against Julian. Erica was still in the mud, bringing legions of Heroic Spirits to attack Illya. Not even the mighty Excalibur was enough to defeat them. When she runs out of magic, the chances of them winning are slim. At that point we have the first Deus Ex Machina of the episode. Remember Tanaka? Unfortunately, we still don’t get a chance to learn who she is, but we do get a few hints. Awakened and burning hot, she fired a fireball from the hand right to the middle of the fight. The fireball (which later turned into Tanaka’s hand – yes, she threw her hand) was actually a dragon shard sword. Does that imply that Tanaka is a dragon? A dragon with amnesia that is, and a very powerful one. Quite conveniently, the sword is the only thing that can defeat the cube (with no explanation whatsoever as to why). Beatrice is then ordered to fry everyone alive. Illya and Miyu are saved second before being hit by Mjolnir’s lightning. They have to thank the second Deus Ex Machina, Shirou. Up until a few moments before he was dying, but of course he had that extra juice to make a shield in front of his sister. How convenient. But that was his final heroic act; all out of magic and strength he is ready to die in the presence of his sister. BUT WAIT! Rin doesn’t have the power to heal him, you say? That’s nonsense. There is a third Deus Ex Machina here to save the day. Bazett found Rin’s pendant lying somewhere in a cave (I think). How convenient.
The future always lies ahead
The second part is full fan-service, and we are talking about some proper scenes. The group, along with Angelica who as a servant she just has a new master now, returned to Shirou and Miyu’s Japanese-style mansion. I don’t want to go into details about this part but these things happened: Bathtub scene. Grapping hand. Animal pajamas. Japanese traditional clothing. Kuro in her usual outfits. Miyu’s imouto side.
After the credits we got the premise of the upcoming movie: We are going to learn the story of Miyu and Shirou.
Tanaka: Really now, who is this girl? She is indestructible and she can throw her hand as a sword fireball that looks like a dragon scale. She is a dragon. There is no other explanation. She is a dragon that has amnesia and huge boobs and likes to dress in gym clothes. She is a cool and sexy dragon. Wow. I want to see that.
Fan-Service: I really enjoyed the second half of the episode. The scene were chilled and relaxing. There is something about traditional Japanese housing and clothing that makes me feel peaceful. I think I need a Japanese mansion for myself.
Illya Pajamas: I was told that the pajamas Illya wears are a reference to Carnival Phantasm, a comedy OVA series based on the Type-Moon gag manga, Take-Moon (テイク・ムーン Teiku Mūn?) by Eri Takenashi. The OVA series was created by Type-Moon to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary. The series focuses on funny and absurd situations happening to the various characters of the Type-Moon franchises, mostly from Fate/stay night and Tsukihime. I haven’t seen the series so I can’t really tell. I trust my source.
This was not my favorite anime of this season, but it was the worst I’ve seen. The ecchi / action elements were good and kept the momentum going, but the plot was a little too convenient and it sometimes felt a little childish, if not simplistic. But, I enjoyed the run. I’m definitely not buying any merchandise out of this one, and the only thing I will probably remember are a few interesting trivia and Tanaka. And boobs. Definitely boobs.
4/6
Not bad. Not bad at all. To be honest, I am curious to find out Miyu and Shirou’s story. It’s a prequel that can set the bases for the second season (or fifth – depends on how you count the series).
