This episode definitely has the BIGGEST twist in 91 Days so far! I was literally dumbfounded and couldn’t believe my own eyes! Okay, let me make it brief and I will try not to spoil the fun.
In the previous episode, Ronaldo and Frate died while Fio left Lawless. Thus, Nero is drown in sadness and loneliness, thinking that he is the only Vanetti left to protect this family, aside from his soon-retired father. But he is not the only one who is lonely.
Colteo, a.k.a. Avilio’s childhood friend and the Lawless Heaven recipe creator, starts to feel lonely too. Especially after he overheard Avilio making a promise to Nero:
From now on, I’ll be your brother.
It was the exact promise Colteo made to Avilio on the night he lost his family. If Avilio is now Nero’s brother, what about Colteo? So far, we’ve only seen Colteo doing his best to support Avilio whereas Avilio seems to dedicate himself to Nero. We, including Colteo, can’t help but wonder: Is Avilio on the right track?
Of course, this is not the first time Colteo raised his doubts regarding Avilio’s actions. But in this episode, Colteo finally decided to do something about it, as he realised that Avilio is becoming more and more like a member of the mafia. How did he realise that? It’s all thanks to Mr. Delphy, the new officer from Chicago who swore to bring peace and order back to Lawless by getting rid of the Fango family and the Vanetti family. This big-nose officer had seriously disturbed Nero’s liquor business so Avilio and Nero decided to “disturb” his family in return, in a life-threatening way. This is indeed a great shock to Colteo because he thought Avilio, who supposed to understand the pain of losing one’s family, would never harm another’s.
In order to stop Avilio’s madness, Colteo informed Fango of Nero’s whereabouts, hoping that he could get rid of Nero for good. Unfortunately, Avilio noticed something wrong and alerted Nero just in time. Once again, he saved Nero’s life. Which really makes us wonder: Is Avillio REALLY going to kill this guy in the end?
Colteo is now officially a traitor for the Vanetti family. Yet, he refuses to join the Fango family, despite Fango’s invitations. Although Avilio is cold to him and even told him to stay away from his life, Colteo simply cannot leave Avilio. Therefore, he ended up hiding himself in the Lodge, under Barbero’s suspicion, and walking the streets with fear, under Fango’s surveillance.
Normally, Fango would have killed Colteo since he had known too much and yet refused to join him. But he let Colteo live because he still needs Colteo’s Lawless Heaven recipe. After all, this devilish liquor is fetching high price not only in the domestic market, but also in the international market. On top of that, there is news saying that the Prohibition is going to be lifted soon. Once the Prohibition is gone, people will be allowed to sell alcohol freely and Lawless Heaven will definitely bring bigger earnings to anyone who produces it. So of course Fango won’t kill the golden goose Colteo. Not until he has the recipe in his hands……
In the end, Fango actually got the recipe from someone else and he paid that person dearly with a swing from his golf club. So he invites Colteo over to tie the loose end. When you thought Colteo was joining Frate and Ronaldo soon, Fango suddenly changes his mind and decides to let him go. Probably because he had a better idea: tell the Vanettis who the traitor is. He is looking forward for a good show, I guess.
When Colteo is walking to the door, Fango grabs his telephone and asks the operator to connect him to Nero Vanetti. Colteo, who just escaped from the golf club and is still in deep fear, loses his mind and rushes towards Fango with a bottle of liquor. The young man, who started to make liquor to pay his college fees, attacks Fango in the most brutal way we’ve seen in 91 Days so far! It’s like a harmless little sheep suddenly gone insane and killed the fearless tiger with a bloodthirsty surprise attack! What a shocking twist!
Although it’s a pity that our crazy clown Don Fango couldn’t stay with us until the very end, his death is definitely a memorable one. Because his death represents a milestone when kind-hearted Colteo has his first mental breakdown after being involved in mafia activities and he is now officially bound up with mafia forever.
What will Colteo do next? Will he run back to Avilio and confess to him that he is the traitor and he killed Fango? Or will he run away to hide himself? Or, the most outrageous assumption, maybe he’ll take over Fango’s power and run the mafia family?
It’s hard to say where this story will go because 91 Days is simply full of surprises and madness!
