Just when Nero is getting tired of his run-away life, he receives good news from Barbero: The Orcos and the Vanettis are forming a truce. Turns out that the Orcos wanted to snuff out Fango but they failed. Hence, they decided to team up with the Vanettis to avoid facing two enemies at the same time. Fango has holed up on the Island, the place where Avilio and Colteo met Nero and Vanno in the first episode. Since the families are teaming up, Nero thinks that it should be fine for him to return home. However, Barbero requests to meet up with him before entering the town.
While Nero and Avilio are travelling back, Nero asks Avilio whether he is interested in joining his family when they get back. Avilio is a bit shocked by his invitation but he keeps silent and accepts the cigarette Nero offers to him.
Nero brings Avilio to his secret brewery which he calls “the Lodge”. Avilio is surprised to see his childhood friend Colteo there. Turns out that Colteo is working with Barbero to produce more of his quality alcohol. When Barbero asks Nero how he and Avilio are doing after their “monster slaying”, Nero starts compaining about Avilio’s bad driving and Avilio starts arguing with him; they are reacting like close friends. Colteo is shocked to see Avilio’s smile when Nero patted him in the back. Apparently, Avilio is no longer the gloomy boy he used to know.
Perhaps Colteo thinks that something may go wrong if Avilio gets attached to Nero, one of the persons on his murder list. Thus, he asks Avilio when he is going to carry out his revenge plan. Avilio explains that he needs to earn Nero’s trust in order to get close to Don Vanetti. Right after, Nero shouts Avilio to come, saying that he wants to introduce him to his father, Don Vanetti. Avilio smiles to Colteo, telling him that it might not be too long before he gets rid of Nero. However, Colteo is still concerned. Can Avilio really kill Nero after what they have been through? That is definitely one of the main questions of this anime.
Before Nero and Avilio go to the Vanetti’s, they observe Don Orco outside Ottimo Orco. Once again, Don Orco complains about his lasagna and threatens to feed the chef to the pigs if he gets his lasagna wrong again. When Nero and Avilio reach the Vanetti’s mansion, they find that an ambush, arranged by Nero’s little brother Frate and probably his brother-in-law Ronaldo, is set in order to kill Nero. Thanks to Tigre, who signalled Nero by raising up his right hand, and Volpe, who secured the gate, all of them managed to escape from the scene. However, Tigre was shot during the run.
Barbero and Colteo meet up with them at their hideout. All of them are trapped in Lawless as all roads, bridges, and boats are blocked. They have no way to escape this time, despite how joyful Avilio is when he thinks that they can head back on their trip again. While they are thinking of their next move back in the Vanetti’s mansion, Ronaldo announces that Frate will be in charge of the Vanettis now. The calm, old Don Vanetti asks whether Don Galassia made that decision and Ronaldo confirms it. Ronaldo also stresses that Nero must die. Therefore, we can conclude that there’s no hope for Nero to return to his family.
While Nero and the others are asleep, Colteo suggests to Avilio that they should run away together, leaving all these mafia fighting behind. After all, Nero will probably be killed even if Avilio doesn’t make his move. However, Avilio insists that Nero can’t die like that as Nero is the one who will lead him to Vincent Vanetti. Moreover, Avilio plans to find out the fourth person whose name wasn’t written in the letter. Colteo tries to persuade Avilio by telling him that life is more important than revenge. However, to Avilio revenge is exactly the thing which keeps him alive.
In order to get help for Tigre who might not survive his wound, Avilio decides to cross the river with Colteo and meet Fango on the Island. Mr. Granchio, Lacrima, and Cerotto are staying there with Fango. Lacrima remembers Avilio, the boy who sneaked into her apartment and tried to kill her lover Fango. She takes them to Fango without any questions and even flirts with Avilio before she leaves them with Fango. Apparently, she is very interested in Avilio.
After Avilio makes a deal with Fango, Colteo goes back to Nero and the others to ask them to go to the Island. He ensures them that Avilio has settled everything with Fango.
Nero trusts Avilio, but he cannot trust Fango. No one can guarantee that this mad man will not kill every one of them in the end. Colteo finally reveals Avilio and Fango’s deal: Bringing Don Orco to Fango alive. By doing so, Fango can easily take over the Orco family. But how are they planning to do that? Avilio told Fango that only Nero, who had no idea about Avilio’s proposal, knows the details. In other words, as long as they try to bring Don Orco to Fango, Fango will not kill Nero and the others just yet.
What will happen if they really cross the river and join forces with Fango? On top of that, is Avilio starting to see himself as Nero’s ally too? Find out the answer next week!
